Rules and Expectations

Partnership with Parents

The staff and Board of Management of Brusna National School hope that you will:

  • Value and support the home–school partnership in promoting the best outcomes for your child.

  • Ensure your child attends school regularly, arrives on time, and comes refreshed, prepared and ready for learning.

  • Contact the school re; any absences your child may need, i.e., due to sickness/appointments
  • Take an active and supportive interest in your child’s learning and progress.

  • Support your child in opportunities for home learning, e.g. shared reading and homework activities.

  • Inform the school of any concerns or circumstances that may affect your child’s learning or wellbeing.

  • Attend parent–teacher meetings and discussions regarding your child’s progress.

  • Encourage your child to consider and respect the feelings, rights and property of others.

  • Support your child in caring for school equipment, books, furniture, buildings and grounds.

  • Encourage your child to try their best in all aspects of school life.

  • Promote positive and appropriate behaviour at all times.


School Rules

The school authorities have a duty of care to all pupils entrusted to our charge and supervision.

  • School begins at 9:20am.

  • Pupils should not arrive later than 9:40am.

  • While school grounds may be accessible, Brusna NS cannot accept responsibility for children who arrive before the official opening time or who remain on the grounds after dismissal, unless supervised.

  • Absences must be explained by a note signed by a parent/guardian or by contacting the school by phone or Aladdin.

  • Pupils who need to leave during school hours must provide a note signed by a parent/guardian stating the collection time and the name of the adult collecting them.

  • The school must be informed of any Court Order affecting a child’s welfare and of any person who is not permitted to collect the child.

  • All pupils are expected to wear the full school uniform during school hours.

  • The school tracksuit may only be worn on designated Physical Education days.

  • Jeans, leggings, shorts and similar items are not permitted as part of the school uniform.

  • In the interest of children’s health and wellbeing, fizzy drinks, crisps and sweets are discouraged in lunch boxes.

  • Mobile Phones are not permitted in school.
  • Chewing gum is strictly prohibited.

  • Appointments with the Class Teacher or Principal should be arranged through the school office to minimise disruption to teaching and learning.

  • Admission forms must be completed fully for all new pupils enrolling in Brusna National School.
